Chairs Notes and Notices
August 2024
Dear Members
Summer, such as it is, is almost over and since the last newsletter club members have had a feast of activities to enjoy including the club garden market, a quiz night, the RHS Malvern Spring show and plant creche days, garden visits and coach trips.
We are now moving into the Autumn and the new club year starting in September with a talk on Dillycot Gardens given by Sally Oates.
The RHS Malvern Spring Show Plant Creche
Thanks to all who came on Friday the 10th of May and Sunday the 12th of May 2024 to help run this year’s plant creche and a special thank you to Léonie and David Creighton for organising every one.
The Gardeners Market
A big thankyou to every for supporting the Garden Market on May 18 . The doors opened at 1.45 pm, with the garden talk starting at 2.30. We had a number of both commercial and private tables and numerious cakes, preserves, jams and honey were sold as well a tea and cake helping to support club funds.
The Martley Garden Quiz This year we fielded three teams and aquitted our selves well. One team gaining first place with the others coming third and fifth out of a field of thirteen teams.
Garden Visits.
For our June garden visit a lovely afternoon spent in Welland in beautiful garden with far reaching views towards the Malverns and Cotswolds. Carefully planted and tended beds and borders, vegetable plots, glasshouse and a polytunnel- what more can you want? Oh yes, welcoming and generous hosts and cake!

On our second afternoon of garden outings in July we visited two gardens in Eckington: Mantoft and Hilltop. The gardens were glorious but the weather, unfortunately, was not! We were treated to glorious borders, topiary, ponds and views – both within the gardens and the rolling countryside beyond. A huge thank you must be extended to our hosts who were so hospitable to their soggy guests and made us feel so welcome. I am afraid there are no photographs due to the weather. Both gardens open with the NGS, you will find details on their website and the Yellow Book.
Coach Trip.
For our coach trip in August a lovely day spent by members on the coach visit to the beautiful Bishops Palace and Gardens in Wells, Somerset. The final number who came on the visit was 46. Thank you to Astons for the coach and friendly driver and to everyone involved in organising the day.
