July Garden Visit.

Our July garden visit saw an enthusiastic group dodge the showers to visit the C19th city walled garden of William and Julia Scott. They have managed the garden here organically since 1995 with an emphasis on herbs and their many uses. During our visit, the bees were enjoying the many flowering herbs and perennials. Within the relaxed planting style, there is Williams’s love of topiary and many fruit trees trained in the French style. Compost production and caring for wildlife are import features in the garden including bug hotels bird and bat boxes and a formal pond.

The ancient lean to greenhouse is home to equally ancient grape vines.
Herbs in a raised bed with bees enjoying the lavender flowers.
Espalier trained apple trees.
apple trees trained in an oval shape.
The formal pond contained a wildlife ramp.
The cooks herb garden.
Organic plant food brewing.
Somewhere quiet to sit and enjoy tea and biscuits.

A very enjoyable and informative garden visit , I would recommend visiting when they are open again next year for the National Garden Scheme and their home made Medlar jelly.
