Illustrated Talk Unusual and Long Blooming Garden Plants by Derry Watkins

About Our Speaker :
Derry Watkins & Special Plants
Special Plants is a garden, nursery and online seed shop run by Derry Watkins near Bath in Southwest England. The site was purchased in 1996 as a derelict barn surrounded by muddy fields, and has since been converted into a thriving garden, home and business.

Derry is author of two books on greenhouse gardening and has introduced many plants from her plant collecting trips to South Africa and elsewhere. The result is a collection of unusual plants from all over the world, including an amazing range of hardy herbaceous and rockery plants as well as many tender perennials for terrace and conservatory.

Rob and Diane Cole moved from Birmingham to Meadow Farm in September 1998 to seek a more rural way of life. To enable them to continue running their plant growing business from this new location they set about building a new ¾ acre nursery in part of their 2 acre meadow, before turning their attention to creating a garden in the one acre plot to the rear of the house.

Today the garden is laid out as a blend of formal and informal areas, and includes a natural stream, paved and seating areas, vistas and enclosed spaces, a scree bed and wide borders of herbaceous planting. The remainder of the 2 acre meadow is now managed as a wildlife reserve to encourage native flora and fauna.

Meadow Farm is situated on the main B4090 Droitwich Road, on the western edge of the village of Feckenham (Droitwich side), just inside the 40 mph zone, opposite Berrow Hill Lane. We will have a Union Jack flag and an orange bollard at the entrance (which is a gap in a hawthorn hedge). It is very easy to miss us so drive slowly and keep looking. If you are lost telephone 07961 377506.
